Mark Davies & Marcus Houston are putting on two one day Self Defence Workshops in aid of Help for Heroes. The first workshop is taking place at our full time martial arts centre in Arbroath, the second at Montrose Sports Centre.

The workshops are aimed at men & women with no prior training or experience in martial arts. You don't need to be young, fit, or stong; you just need to want to learn some valuable personal security skills.

Mark Davies is the chief instructor of 'the BEST defence' in Arbroath. He is one of the UK's most widely qualified martial arts instructors, & is the founder & Master Instructor of Tactical Edge. He is a Close Combat Instructor to elements of UK Special Forces, & has provided training to specialist military & government units from around the world. Marcus Houston is the chief instructor of 'Combat Ready' in Edinburgh. He is a Senior Instructor in Tactical Edge, & is also Scotlands highest ranking Krav Maga Instructor.

The workshop will draw techniques & tactics from Tactical Edge & Krav Maga, & will look at the most common methods of violent crime & how you can defend yourself against them. Spaces are limited so call us to book your space NOW!

Tactical Edge mini workshops coming soon!

It's sometimes difficult to fit all our skill-at-arms training in to training sessions as much as we'd like; so to boost everyone's training in this important area of Tactical Edge we're going to start running mini workshops on various skill-at-arms topics. These workshops will just be a normal class length, & will be FREE to ANY students of Tactical Edge from ANY of our Tactical Edge classes. The workshops will be taught by Tactical Edge founder Mark Davies. Workshops will run on a Saturday from 2 - 3.30pm, & we hope to put on one a month. We encourage all Tactical Edge students to try to make as many of these as possible, as they will give you a total immersion in our weapons training. The first workshop will be on the use of Single Stick, & we'll confirm the date here soon.

TaeKwon-Do Beginners Course starting on February 24th, spaces can be booked now!

We speak to A LOT of adults who would love to take up Martial Arts, but feel they're too old or too unfit. Quite a lot of adults are a bit too self conscious to join in with a class full of experienced students, & sometimes they find the class a little bit too hard because they're in with people who are fitter because they've been training for a while.

We decided to run a ONE MONTH BEGINNERS COURSE in TaeKwon-Do. We'll teach you everything you need to allow you to join in with our adults class with confidence. We'll teach you the basic Kettlebells exercises that we use for our fitness training, & start improving your fitness levels gradually. We'll teach you the basics you need to know to join in with a class, get you up to speed on basic padwork & sparring, & teach you some valuable self defence skills right from the word go.

The course costs £35, & gets you a free uniform so you are a part of the team right away. Spaces will be VERY limited, so please call us right away to guarantee your space. Quite honestly, we WILL get you fitter, stronger & more confident than you ever thought possible; or that you could accomplish going to the gym or any other class!

Russian Kettlebells Beginners Course starting Monday February 1st!!!

Jacqui Davies is running a beginners Kettlebells Course for 6 weeks starting on the 1st of February. The course will teach you how to do the different main exercises safely & properly. The course will teach you everything you need to know to be able to join in the Kettlebells class & know exactly what your doing, or work safely with a Kettlebell at home. Spaces must be booked. Mark Davies invited to teach on Grandmasters Seminar

Chief Instructor of 'the BEST defence', Mark Davies, was invited to teach on the recent 'Audience with Grandmaster MacCallum' seminar hosted by GMac Martial Arts for ITF Scotland.

The seminar was in honor of Grandmaster Tom MacCallum, celebrating his promotion to 9th Degree Blackbelt Grandmaster by the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. This makes him Scotland first ever TaeKwon-Do Grandmaster. Grandmaster MacCallum was the Secretary General of the ITF for many years, & was the closest friend & aide of the founder of TaeKwon-Do, General Choi Hong Hi.

The seminar was taught by Master Gordon Wallace, Master Mark Hutton, Mr Davies & Mr Andrew Niven. After Grandmaster MacCallum had kicked the seminar off with a few words on how TaeKwon-Do had changed in the time he had been studying & teaching it, & a quick warm up in the style of his first instructor in Singapore; the first part of the course was taken by Master Wallace. The students were taken through some of the 'old school' training methods, & Master Wallace introduced the students to some of the body conditioning methods that were part of a normal nights training back when Mark was one of Master Wallaces students.

Master Hutton took over & took the students through some dynamic leg strengthening & stretching training. This part of the seminar saw some very interesting looks on everyones faces, & some really strange noises that sounded remarkably like pain.

Mr Davies then took over to perform Applied TaeKwon-Do with the students. Mark chose some techniques from the patterns & showed how they could be applied against edged weapons, working specifically against the high frontal threat position.

The final part of the physical course was taken by Mr Niven, who is originally from New Zealand but now lives in Germany. Mr Niven took the students through some specialised training for developing their jumping & flying techniques.

After the physical part of the seminar everyone was invited upstairs to a Q & A session with Grandmaster MacCallum, where they could ask him questions about the early days of TaeKwon-Do & the ITF, & his years with General Choi.

The seminar was a HUGE success, & proved such an enjoyable day that the same format may be used again for future ITF Scotland courses.
